Buddy Program
Volunteer
The aim of the Buddy Program Volunteer position is to create, establish, and develop Helem Montreal’s buddy program. The buddy program will connect an LGBTQ+ newcomer with a person from the Helem Montreal community who has been in Montreal for several years. The purpose of the program is to foster new friendships and further support the immigrant community with their transition and integration into life in Quebec.
Duration: 1 year (flexible)
Key Responsibilities:
- Define the purpose and structure of the buddy program, under the direction of the Helem Montreal president
- Create advertising to recruit buddy volunteers from the Helem Montreal community
- Coordinate with other organizations in Montreal to recruit immigrants interested in participating in the program
- Follow-up on established relationships
- Create group events for participants in the program
- Other duties may be assigned as the program develops
Support:
This position directly works with the President of Helem Montreal, who can provide key assistance and support.
Qualifications:
- No previous experience required
- Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and driven
- Passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ immigrant communities with their integration into Quebec society
- Ability to communicate with other organizations
- Supportive of the LGBTQ+ community and LGBTQ+ causes
- Excellent communication skills in French
- English and Arabic preferred, but not required
