Volunteer
The aim of the Refugee Resources Volunteer position is to provide comprehensive resources to support asylum seekers and refugees during their immigration process. Helem Montreal seeks to provide several novel forms of support, such as compiling lists of useful resources in Montreal and providing complementary pre-recorded workshops. The organization also welcomes creative and innovative ideas from volunteers to provide LGBTQ+ immigrants with a more positive experience during their immigration processes. Communication skills in Arabic are preferred.
Duration: 6 months (flexible)
Key Responsibilities:
- Research the process of seeking asylum in Quebec and Canada
- Compile a list of resources useful to asylum seekers
- Establish contacts with relevant service providers, including lawyers, clinics, housing…
- Develop a Resources page on the Helem Montreal website
Support:
This position directly works with the President of Helem Montreal, who can provide key assistance and support.
Qualifications:
- No previous experience required
- Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and driven
- Passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ immigrant communities with their integration into Quebec society
- Ability to communicate with other organizations
- Supportive of the LGBTQ+ community and LGBTQ+ causes
- Excellent communication skills in French and Arabic
- English preferred, but not required
- Skills in Microsoft Office
